Calvert Cup
Todwick's Michael Gregory & Tommy Brown win Calvert Cup. On a difficult speedy green the Todwick twosome overcame opponents Steve Davies & John Thackery to win the cup for the first time. You have to have luck on your side to win anything and it was Michael's day, not only with the bowling, he also won the raffle.

Defending champion Graham Chambers lost for the first time in 5 years. Playing with son Chris, it was neck and neck in the semi final and with the score 16-17 they lost a 4 and were out. The husband and wife team of Chris & Viv Womersley had had a good run but found the green difficult and lost to the runners up .
The lack of support for the finals was disappointing and the apathy creeping into our bowling will result in no competitions being held at all without more support.
As I will not be seeking re-election as Secretary in the 2016 season it will
be the last Calvert Cup that I organise and wish the new organiser the best
of luck in the coming seasons.

The Mid Season meeting is on July 1st at Albion Rd. W.M.C. at 8.00pm. Entries and draws for the Stones Cup and Club Champions Cup will be done at this meeting.
Five hours of morning rain spoiled the green, but it stopped around dinner time and by 3 o'clock there was a cold, blue sky and sunshine but the damage was done.
Everybody expected it to be close and we weren't disappointed.
Both teams bowled as well as could be expected on the heavy green with each having wins in the first half Worksop had a slender 7 points lead.
So, needing 36 points for victory and watched by a decent crowd given the cold weather Worksop's A. Rodgers & R. Merrick lost 18-21 to Mark Gilbank and John Carpenter and with the final pairs on, and at 15 across, it could have gone either way but as they both continued to pick up points Worksop's M. Mallender & P. Melia broke the 36 points barrier for victory.
Treeton's Graham Chambers & Mark Jones had the consolation of Treeton's third win 21-20, but with the overall score at 78-75, Worksop C & SC were £100 richer and there'll be a new name on the cup. Many thanks to Todwick BC for their efforts.

On a chilly evening in Greasbrough Aurora made club history by winning the Evening League K.O. Cup and are also League Champions, achieving the double for the first time.
The weather might have been on the cold side but the Greasbrough Bowling Club provided a warm welcome to Aurora and Treeton in staging the Cup Final.
The
green was good and the hospitality was excellent ,so thanks Greasbrough.
All
that is good about Rotherham bowls was on show last night. Good bowling
played in a competitive but friendly spirit.
So friendly that they all
ended up in the local pub after the match celebrating or commiserating.
A good advert for Rotherham Bowls.

The final of the new "Club Champions" Cup was held at Kings Bowling Club on Sunday, and was competed between Treeton and Boston. Boston did well to reach the final, but it proved one step too far for them, with Treeton taking the trophy.

The final of the Midweek Knock-out Cup will take place at Greasborough this coming Thursday evening (21st August) with a 6.30pm start.
It promises to be a keenly fought contest, with the current top two in Division One making it through to the end of the compeition, with Aurora A facing Treeton A.
Aurora A are not only the reigning champions of the cup, but have just won the Division One championship for this season. With that mantle having been Treeton's last season, we're sure they will be going all-out to get some silverware in 2014!
It should be a good game - if you're not doing anything on Thursday evening, they'll be glad to see you for the game, and both teams will appreciate your support.
Several local clubs will be hoping to win silverware over the Bank Holiday weekend.

This competition was started in 1988 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the defeat of the Spanish Armada, when Francis Drake had time to finish his game of bowls before going to work.
This season the two finalists were the Doubles League and the Saturday League. The match, held at Valley Park, saw the Doubles League coming out as winners.

They have done it again! Mark Gilbank and Graham Chambers have won the Calvert Cup for the 4th year running. Played 20 games won 20 games, that is some record.
In an all Treeton final contested with club mates Alan Goddard and John King they came out winners 21-13. The game lasted for 22 ends with both winning 11 ends each. On the ends that Mark and Graham lost they only conceded 1, in 9 out of the 11 ends. This is the key to success which they have mastered over the last 4 years.
The Vets Merits were won this year by Jeff Coulson, who beat Paul Schofield in the final.
Jeff had reached the final after being victorious over Dave Stainrod in the semi-finals, with Paul beating Roy Carr in the other semi-final.

Aurora A won the Midweek League Knock-out Cup on Thursday evening (29th August), although in the early stages of the game, a shock looked to be on the cards.
They were up against Silverwood B, who have been in Division Three this season, but had previously shown their credentials by knocking out their "A" team on the way to the final.
Aurora found themselves nine points down on the aggregate after the "first half", but their back three stepped up to the mark to win the trophy, with an eventual 113-91 score in their favour.
