Summer 2021 update

The Britsh Crown Green Bowling Association have advised that they are still waiting for detailed information on what is permissible when crown green bowls returns on March 29th. This information is now not expected to be received until late next week.

In the interim period, all social distancing rules should remain with the rule of 6 and/or the two family group guidelines to be followed, as was documented in the government’s guidelines.

Summer 2021 season

On Monday, the government issued a proposed schedule from the present lock-down to gradually progress towards a more normal way of life by the summer.

Part of that schedule indicates that outdoor bowling may resume from 29th March 2021. We have received notification from BCGBA, but await further clarification from them in due course. Once we have received that, we will be in a better position to know what arrangements may be possible for bowling this summer.

We appreciate that the last year has been very difficult for us all, and fully understand that many bowlers will be hesitant and nervous about a return to bowling. To assess what clubs think, the committee intend to consult all clubs on a number of aspects to gain an overall view of each club's situation, including how many teams each club feel they can commit to entering this year. We stress that we understand the difficulty that some bowlers may be in about making a decision in the immediate future, and hope that we can find a way of moving forward that will allow a return to competitive matches while respecting the views of all. We hope that as each club consult their players, they will show the same level of compassion to their members.

Unfortunately, a full RCCGBA meeting seems impossible for a while, so we will have to hold consultations remotely, so that a timely return to action can be made.

Happy Christmas!

We are saddened to hear the news that Brian Houghton of Kings BC died on Monday from pneumonia after picking up the Coronavirus. He appears to have contracted the virus while visiting his wife, Margaret, in hospital after she had fallen and broken her shoulder. We send our sincere sympathy and condolences to Margaret, all their family, friends and team mates of their loss. Margaret is recuperating in a nursing home at the moment.

Brian's funeral will be held at St. Margareth's Church, Swinton at 1pm on Tuesday, 15th December. As the number of people at the church are limited under current Coronavirus restrictions, the cortege will be going down to the bowling green car park at Wath at approx. 12.40pm on its way to the church. Anyone who wishes to pay their respects may choose to take this option.

In addition, we have learned that Graham Vernon, Brian Shaw and Vic Gunthorpe, all also of Kings BC, have died this year. Again, we offer our condolences to their families and friends at what is a very sad time.

RCCGBA Statement

All league matches scheduled for 2020 have been cancelled, following a committee meeting of the RCCGBA on Tuesday, 28th July.

The Stones Cup for 2020 has also been cancelled.

While information received from the BCGBA on Monday, 27th July allows for friendly matches to be arranged, and for competitive matches to be played, there is insufficient time for the season to be completed. We have also considered comments received from clubs. Many players are unwilling or uncomfortable about playing this summer, and their views must be respected.

The committee have also decided that all RCCGBA fees paid at the 2020 AGM will be “rolled over” to 2021, so unless any club’s situation changes, no additional fees will be required in 2021. Refunds, if applicable, will be made at the 2021 AGM.

All honorariums due in 2020 to committee members will not be claimed or paid.

In view of the events of this year, the End of Season Meeting and the Presentation Night for 2020 have been cancelled. The next scheduled meeting of the RCCGBA will be the 2021 AGM.

If there is sufficient interest, we have devised a new one-off competition – the “Rotherham Knock-Out Trophy”, details of which can be found below.
A minimum of 8 teams will be required for the competition to be run. Entries are open to all RCCGBA registered clubs, with a £100 prize for the winners, and £50 for runners-up.
We appreciate that there are many conditions and restrictions, but we must comply with the law and BCGBA rules. However, we are keen to give clubs the opportunity to play competitively this season, hence our decision to arrange this competition.

Bowling update

All clubs should have received an email from South Yorkshire Crown Green Bowling Association today which enables further relaxation of the restrictions in place due to Covid-19.

The guidance issued by British Crown Green Bowling Association allows for friendly fixtures to be played, and for league/cup matches to be played, although all are subject to clubs undertaking risk assessments.

The committee of the RCCGBA will be meeting this Tuesday evening to discuss our options, and will appreciate any views and comments that can be submitted ahead of our meeting, with a 5pm deadline on Tuesday, 28th July for emails to be received.

We appreciate the very short notice given, but ask for your co-operation and assistance.

Midseason meeting cancelled

With the ongoing suspension of fixtures and current governmental restrictions on meetings being held, we formally confirm that the planned mid-season meeting for June has been cancelled.

Clubs should have received details from the British Crown Green Bowling Associaton as far as the re-opening of bowling greens for practicing purposes, but there appears to be no immiment announcement of the resumption of competitive bowling.

The committee will, of course, continue to monitor the situation, but we cannot consider any league fixtures being staged until we receive authorisation from BCGBA.

We wish all bowlers and their families all the best for the current difficult situation and hope that you all stay safe and well.

Due to the current suspension of fixtures nationally, these fixtures are for information purposes at the moment, but we hope that this advance preparation will help a speedy resumption of matches once we have clearance to do so.

Please note that, for the moment, the Midweek Cup for this year has not been drawn, so that as many of the league fixtures may be completed as possible. If future circumstances allow for the inclusion of the cup, we will make the draw at a later time.

Captains and secretaries on our contacts list will be emailed with all fixtures at the weekend. If any club has yet to advise of new contact details, please contact the Registar as soon as possible.

We have details of the Vets League fixtures, and will post them on their section of the web site in the coming week.

Statement

Following yesterday’s governmental advice and instructions from the British Crown Green Bowling Association, all fixtures under the RCCGBA’s control are suspended indefinitely.

We are sure that everyone hopes that we can resume playing with only a short delay to the start of the season, but the health and well being of all our players and their families are our priority.

The fixtures will be issued by the end of this week as previously advised, but much depends on when we are given approval by the BCGBA, who will be guided by the authorities, as to when we are permitted to resume our matches.

In the meantime, we will be considering various options as to how to run the season so that we can have a swift resumption of our fixtures once given the go-ahead to do so.

We will update this site when we have any news to report.

All matches suspended due to coronavirus

The following statement has been issued this evening by the British Crown Green Bowling Association. We will issue a further statement as far as the RCCGBA are concerned tomorrow morning.

"Following the Government announcement this afternoon it is with great sadness that we now have to suspend all bowling for the foreseeable future.

Based on the advice announced we need to avoid all mass gatherings and sporting event as these will no longer be supported by the emergency services.

If anyone within your household has symptoms then the whole family need to isolate for 14 days.

Limit social contact wherever possible and encourage working from home.

At risk groups - those over 70 and those with medical conditions need to take additional care.

All BCGBA meetings should now be postponed as un-necessary travel should be avoided. Contact in Pubs, Clubs and restaurants to be avoided.

Taking this all into account all leagues should now suspend matches until such time as we are given an all clear to resume competition.

All BCGBA and BCGLCC Competitions are now suspended until further notice this should include all qualifier events.

As a Bowls community we need to look after our members and I encourage you to follow the advice being given and support those we are able to at this very difficult time.

I will add links onto the website / face-book as these are updated.

Please take care of yourself and stay safe.

On behalf of the Management Committee BCGBA
Chris Hasselby (BCGBA Chairman)
Mark Bircumshaw (CEO)"

Coronavirus

The following statement has been issued by the "Sport England" web site, which gives their current advice on what impact the Coronovirus epidemic is taking.

This advice indicates that the bowling fixtures which will be issued for this season can go ahead, subject to the precautions which their statement recommends.

Of course, the situation seems to be changing rapidly, and as such the situation is likely to change before the bowling season starts next month. What should be stressed is that anyone who has any symptoms should stay at home and self-isolate for seven days. That may mean that we will experience a number of match postponements if enough players in any one team are affected. The existing rules regarding postponements will continue to apply and the Registrar should be advised in the usual way and within the timescale within the Constutition.

We will have to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis, but we ask that clubs keep the RCCGBA updated if they have any significant issues.

The Sport England web site's statement issued on 12th March reads as follows:

"Coronavirus: information for the sector

An update on the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and what it means for the sport and physical activity sector.

We know sport at every level is facing upheaval because of coronavirus (COVID-19) and that this is causing concern and uncertainty.

The government has today confirmed that people with mild symptoms should stay at home and self-isolate for seven days.

We know that all of this could affect planned events and activities.

For now, it doesn't mean you can't still run activities where people gather, and it definitely doesn't mean that people should be discouraged from being active.

In fact, given that being fit and healthy acts as a deterrent to most infections, it's crucial that members of the public continue to lead active lives throughout this period, whether that's using a local gym or walking or cycling, where it’s possible to do so.

Unless there's official advice telling you not to do so, and as long as you follow the government advice on how to avoid catching or spreading the virus, you can continue with things like club sports fixtures, group activities and use leisure facilities.

In every scenario, it’s clear that hand hygiene is critical and if you’re planning to go somewhere that involves using sports equipment, make sure you're thoroughly wiping it down before and after you use it."

Armada Trophy

We are looking for people to captain two of the teams in this year's Armada Trophy this summer. Treeton have offered their green on the basis that all games (both semi-finals and the final) will be played on the one day.

Thanks go to Mark Gilbank for offering to captain the Friday League team, and to David Hamilton for offering to captain the Saturday League team.

We still need captains for the Midweek and Vets Leagues

The idea of having the Armada Trophy on one day was agreed at the AGM earlier this week, but it is dependent on us having captains for all four teams by the mid-season meeting on 9th June.

If anyone is willing to volunteer, please let us know, either at the midseason meeting or by contacting a member of the committee.

February 28, 2020

Marlene Taylor

It is with great sadness that we have belatedly learned of the death of Marlene Taylor, a former bowler and committee member of various leagues in Rotherham. Marlene and Roy (a former Registrar of bowling leagues in Rotherham) stopped playing bowls in the area around ten years ago, but we are sure that many will still remember them both.

Marlene passed away in December 2018.

We pass our sympathy on to Roy and all her family.

January 23, 2020

Brian Roberts

We have heard of the death of former Wickersley Village and Three Horse Shoes bowler Brian Roberts over the Christmas period. Brian was a regular bowler, but retired from bowling when he moved away from the Rotherham area to live nearer to his son.

The "end of season meeting" of the Rotherham Combined will take place at Treeton WMC on Tuesday, 8th October with a 7pm start.

Please remember that all trophies must be returned at the meeting to give us time to get them engraved with the 2109 winners' details.

We also remind Treeton, Ridgeway, Valley Park, Shireoaks, Spartans, Bolsover and Dinnington that we need the 'race sheets' and money at the meeting, so that everything can be ready for the Presentation Evening in November.

Tickets for the Presentation Evening will be available at the End of Season meeting. Each club has two tickets, but if anyone needs any more, they will also be available at the meeting.

The Presentation Evening will be held at Treeton WMC on Saturday, 30th November, with extra tickets costing £5 each.

Stones Cup

The season is almost over, and there are just the games in the Stones Cup to be played. The schedule is elsewhere on this web site, and it will be a great help if results can be forwarded to the Registrar as soon as possible after the games are played.

While we have some clubs who have volunteered their green for use for the semi-finals and final, we are keen to ask for any other clubs who are willing and able to do so, as we need some flexibility as it will depend on which teams reach the last four as to which greens we are able to use as neutral greens.

September 2, 2019

Midweek Cup Final

On a cool but fine night at Barkers Park Treeton A retained the Midweek Knockout Cup trophy on Wednesday evening. A good crowd had gathered to support both teams.

After the first three games Phoenix B held a two point advantage with good wins for Graham Beecham and Brenda Woodward, with Paul Schofield redressing the balance somewhat by winning his game for Treeton.

Treeton, however, came on strong in the second half to win all three close fought encounters to tip the balance their way, running out by a final margin of 14 points. A victory by Keith Richardson over Steve Cartwright in a high quality final game confirmed the victory.

So congratulations go to Treeton A and also to Phoenix B for reaching the final and putting up a spirited fight.

Finally a big thank to everyone at Barkers Park for providing a green in good condition and their warm hospitality.

Following adverse weather conditions on Saturday, which caused numerous postponements, it has been evident that a number of clubs are having difficulty in rearranging all their games before the designated end of the season.

After taking note of all comments made, we have decided that the Saturday League season will be extended until 31st August to allow clubs another week to complete their fixtures.

Please note that the Preliminary Round of the Stones Cup is also due to be played on 31st August, but we hope that the extra week for league matches will help resolve most situations.

Vets’ Singles Merits

Barkers Park’s Mike Weaver retained the title of Vets’ Singles Merit Winner after beating Treeton’s Keith Richardson 21-10 in the Final on a blustery, two-paced Kings No 1 green. Watched by a huge crowd of about 13 Mike took the lead virtually from the start and never looked back.

Pictured with Mike and Keith are the other Semi-Finalists Paul Hindle (Treeton) and John Hulley (Boston).

Once again thanks to Margaret for the chip butties (will whoever “borrowed” the salt on Monday please return it ?).

Midweek League Knock-out Cup Final Result

A cool night at Todwick saw a closely contested match in last night's final between Barkers Park and Treeton A.

The green slowed up by recent rain, which put an emphasis on finding the correct weight rather than accurate lines.

At half way Barkers Park led the aggregate by 4 points with a strong performance from Mike Weaver.

However, Treeton A came back strongly in the second half winning the 3 remaining games, running out convincing winners in the end - 113 points to 95 points.

All credit to Barkers Park for reaching the final.

We thank Todwick Bowling Club for hosting the event, as well as those people who turned out to support both teams.

The Saturday League registered a convincing victory over the Midweek League last Sunday, and will meet the Friday League in the final.

The Friday League had a bye through to the final, owing to no-one coming forward to captain the Vets League team.

It should be a good final - and the players from both sides will be very pleased if you can go along and watch them.

Rotherham Combined AGM - *CHANGE OF VENUE*

We would like to advise that the AGM of the RCCGBA will be held at The Three Horseshoes, Wickersley on Wednesday, 28th February with an 8pm start. Please note that this is a change to the usual venue, so please ensure that your club's delegate is aware of the change.

We have learned that Albion Road is not now opening on Wednesdays, which is the scheduled meeting day for us under RCCGBA Constitution rules, which has led to the change. The Rotherham Combined committee would like to put on record our thanks for Albion Road WMC's hospitality and generosity in making the room available over many years. A return to Albion Road may be possible in the future should member clubs be agreeable to a change of day for meetings, along with room availability.

In addition, if any club or individual has anything that they wish to raise at the AGM, the secretary (David Hamilton) needs to be in receipt of the proposal 14 days before the date of the meeting.

Congratulations to the players of Firbeck A, with thank to Treeton for making it a well contested final. We would also like to thank Shireoaks for offering to host the final, and to all who went along to support the two teams.

End of season meeting reminder

All clubs are reminded that the End of Season meeting will be held at Albion Road on Wednesday, 27th September, with the usual 8pm start.

September 24, 2017

2017 Rotherham Combined Presentation Night

It was agreed at the Mid-season Meeting that we would again hold a separate Presentation Night this year.

The Presenation Night will be combined with a Race Night, with pie and peas being served midway through the evening, so it should prove to be a very enjoyable evening.

It has been booked for Saturday, 4th November at the Phoenix Sports and Social Club, and all clubs agreed that they would buy at least two tickets at £5 each. The doors will open at 7pm, with the first race starting at 7.30pm prompt. There will be a vegetarian option to the pie available, but we do ask that you let us know in advance. All clubs/secretaries are requested to confirm the number of your team members who will be attending by Sunday, 29th October, so that we can finalise catering arrangements. Of course, if more than two people from each club wish to attend, they are more than welcome to do so!

As preparation for the race night I am asking for 8 clubs or members to sell a full race card of 8 horses at £3 and also to obtain a sponsor for each race. The winning horse of each race will result in the owner who as paid £3, winning the sponsors prize for that race what ever it is. On the night individual attendees will be given a race card with all the horses running and in which race and are asked to bet on which horse they feel is going to win. The betting is run on a tote system and goes up in multiples of £1 bets but individuals can obviously buy multiple bets if they wish to do so.

We will also be running a raffle on the night, and clubs are requested to bring a raffle prize with them on the night. All money raised from the raffle and the race night will go back into RCCGBA funds, which will, hopefully, allow us to keep league costs down for future bowling seasons.

So, you could have a great night out and as well as helping towards the cost of running our bowling leagues!

A poster advertising the event can be printed off by clicking here, and we encourage all clubs to put a copy on the notice board in your club hut as soon as possible.

If anyone needs any futher details, please contact David Hamilton, either by email or by phoning 0777 6454318.

Race nights are great entertainment, even if you don't know much (or anything) about horse racing!

Calvert Cup report 2017

It was a nice sunny red hot day for this year's Calvert Cup Competition, which was kindly hosted by Treeton.

There were some very close and exciting matches, and both sets of finalists had some close games in the lead up to the final.

Alan Goddard and John King just won a very close semi-final game 21- 20 against David Hamilton and Bob Burridge from Firbeck, after 5 dead ends with the score locked at 20-20.

Mark Gilbank and Graham Chambers won through a tight semi-final match against Roy Gilbank and Paul Schofield 21-19.

In the final, Mark and Graham proved too hot to handle and ran out 21-12 winners of the tournament.

We would like to thank Treeton Bowling Club for supplying some excellent refreshments throughout the day, and we are sure that all who attended had an enjoyable day.

Photos from the day will appear on the Calvert Cup section of this site as soon as possible.

Due to building works to the new Community Centre, the front car park will be out of use. There is a car park on Field View to the rear of the site, so anyone visiting Brinsworth Bowling Club should use this car park, wheretheir is ample parking space. Further items will be added to this page as the year progresses.

Major road works in the Anston area

We have been advised by Anston BC that the A57 is having major road works from Anston to Worksop starting 4th April for 12 weeks.
They suggest that, to avoid this, people travelling from Worksop come through Woodsetts turn left after Woodsetts onto Woodsetts Road,.and then at the junction in North Anston left again down the hill to the Bowling Green.
Similarly from Sheffield, come off at the Todwick roundabout towards Dinnington and then take the first right at the cross roads past the dumpit site into the village. Turn left at the junction through Old Anston up the hill, turn left at the
main road and down to the bowling green.
Unless of course Sat Nav says different!
Please allow extra time for travelling until these road works are completed.

Stones Cup update

Apologies to the extremely late posting of news of the semi-finals and final of the Stones Cup for 2016. The full results are availble by clicking on the Stones Cup link on the left of your screen, but for those who have not noticed, Firbeck beat Wickersley CI by a comfortable margin, but it was a far different story in the other semi-final, where Dinnington beat Treeton in the most dramatic of circumstances.
After all four matches were played, the scores were level at 69-69, and two games were won by each team. Under competition rules, that meant that a 'sudden death' end had to be played. Dinnington won the toss and set the jack, and went on to win the end by a single point, meaning that they went through to the final, which was played at Shireoaks in early October.

Despite comments from some people regarding the location chosen for the final, the final was well attended with over 50 spectators to see Dinnington face Firbeck. It was a keenly contested final, with the outcome by no means certain until the final game was played. In the end, Firbeck A won 72-67 to take the trophy.

Thanks also go to Shireoaks, who were great hosts for the final, with the green in very good condition, considering it was early October.

January 2, 2017

Silverwood lift the Midweek Cup

On a sunny evening at Coronation Park, Silverwood of Division One faced Division Two leaders Marquis in the final of the Midweek Knock-out Cup on Monday, 15th August.

With a superb number of people taking advantage of a pleasant evening, coupled with there being no Midweek League matches, it was greatly appreciated by all concerned that there were plenty of spectators to witness the event.

The first three to go on the green saw Silverwood take a narrow two games to one lead, but with the winners decided purely on the aggregate scores, that only translated into a two point lead at the break.

With the members of Maltby Community providing both players and spectators with tea and coffee, along with a great selection of cakes, the game entered the crucial second half.

It was here that Silverwood showed their superiority - was it Division One experience, their team selection or just "their day" - as they won all three games to take the cup by a 117 - 80 score line.

Congratulations to captain Sue Hampson and her Silverwood team, who are pictured here on the Maltby green after the game, and we are sure they will be in attendance at the AGM next February when they will be formally presented with the trophy!

August 25, 2016

Midweek Knock-out Cup Final

The final of the Midweek Knock-out Cup will be played at Coronation Park, Maltby on Monday, 15th August with a 6.30pm start.

Results for the semi-finals saw defending cup holders Treeton A go out of the competition in a dramatic game. Treeton won all three games in the first half of the match, and it looked most likely that they would progress through the final. However, the Marquis players had other ideas, and responded by winning all three of the remaining games. Not only that, but they successfully overcame the first half points deficit to take the tie by a narrow 102 - 99 margin.

Marquis will meet Silverwood in the final, and while that sees a Division 2 club facing a Division 1 club, the way Marquis have been playing this season, it should be a good and close contest.

Silverwood were up against Tabard in their semi-final, and Tabard belied their league position to run their Division 1 opponents close, only losing the tie by 106 to 96.

We wish both clubs the very best of luck next Monday, and we hope that, with no Midweek League games scheduled, there will be a good number of spectators and supporters there to watch.

Calvert Cup

Kings' green was a little on the slow side due to last week's downpours but the rain held off and the disappointingly small crowd witnessed some excellent bowling.

Alan and John took control of the first Semi at 5-5 to go 17-7 up. Denis and Brian managed three singles but Alan and John hit back with two singles and a double to win 21-9.

The second Semi was a classic game of two halves. Roy and Paul were leading 15-9 but Kev and James scored twelve points without response over the next six ends to win 21-15.

There was some brilliant bowling in the Final on both short and long marks. Kev and James went into a 16-8 lead, Alan and John recovered to 16-15 but Kev and James kept the pressure on to win 21-15

Committee Vacancies

With the recent death of our Treasurer, Dave Baister, and impending resignations, it means that there will be a number of vacancies on the committee of the Rotherham Combined when we hold our AGM in February.

It is vital that we have new faces on the committee, with the posts of Treasurer, Secretary and Vice-Chairman needing to be filled. While we appreciate that everyone has busy lives, for our bowling leagues to survive, please consider volunteering for one of these vacancies, or asking someone that you know if they will be willing to stand. While volunteers tend to come from people normally attending the meetings at Albion Road, we are sure there are talents within clubs that are not being reflected which we could beneft from.

There are only four meetings held each year - the AGM, Registration Meeting (March), Mid-Season Meeting (June) and End of Season Meeting (October).

Please consider volunteering for any posts on the committee - if anyone has any questions, please ask any committee member, either at this week's Presentation Evening or by contacting any of us directly.

Victory for Treeton in the Stones Cup Final

On a sunny but cool afternoon Kings' green looked superb and was running well. Both teams fielded weakened sides but the fairly large crowd were treated to some excellent bowling (plus tea, coffee, cakes, buns, biscuits and chip butties, but back to the match).

With all matches keenly contested, notable events saw Treeton's Chris Chambers and Mickey Frith going 0-11 down in the corners, but then recovered to lose 18-21 to Firbeck's Kimpton and Watkinson.
John King and Alan Goddard gave Treeton a 13 point ‘plus score’ with their 21-8 win, although Firbeck’s final pair picked up a notable win over Mark and Danny Gilbank.

In the end, the final score was 75-53 in favour of Treeton to see them lift the trophy for the fourth time in the last five years.

Treeton win Midweek League Knock-out Cup

On a fine evening at Swallowest Bowling Club, Treeton A and Boston contested the final of the Midweek League Knock-out Cup last night

Recent downpours meant that the green was running much slower than we all know is usually the case at Swallownest, but it was still a good test for both teams and there was some good bowling to be seen by the many neutrals who took the opportunity to watch the game. I am sure that the players from both sides appreciated the support given to them.

Boston reached the final after narrowly defeating the holders, Aurora A, by the narrowest of margins in an earlier round - the scores were level, but they won 4 games to 2. They have also had a great season in Division Two, and have already had their promotion to Division One confirmed, so this was to be a good test for them of what they can expect next year.

Treeton A reached the final after dropping only a total of ten points in the whole competition, and had their eyes on reclaiming the trophy that has eluded them for the last two seasons.

Treeton were in determined mood, and raced into a 24 point lead after the first half of the game, winning all three of the games. The same pattern followed in the second half, with Treeton eventually winning by a commanding 126-65 score line.

It was an enjoyable evening for all; thanks to the many who turned up to watch. Thanks to Swallownest for staging the final so well, congratulations to Treeton A for their success, and commiserations to Boston for their valiant challenge this year.

28th July

Look who's 90th is coming up next month!

Look who is 90 ( the 9 is the right way up) - Richard ( Dick ) Booy. Still the one you don't want to play, only because he is still a formidable opponent!

"Dick", as he is known, was born on August 8th 1925 in a village near Badminton in Gloucestershire. He met a Rotherham "Land Army" girl and married her in 1947 and moved to Yorkshire to start his married life. Dick retired in 1983 and took up bowling to keep fit and enjoy the outdoor life. He plays 6 times a week and is a member of several clubs playing both singles and doubles. His doubles partner Brenda Black have been a team for the past 27 years.

When you meet Dick you have no idea of his age. If you were to guess you would you would probably be 20 years out. He is truly remarkable.

If there was an advert for what bowling can do for your well being then Dick Booy is the poster boy. His only remaining ambition is to win a match when he is 100.

So congratulations Dick on being a Nonagenarian and enjoy the 90's!
